Maybe concerned about the children’s schooling and definitely under pressure from his Mother, Norris was forced to make a major decision, which was for the family to relocate to Cape Town.
In an act of some magnanimity, he reputedly as a parting gift, presented a local African Chief with his car, possibly a Model T Ford, and one has visions of this gentleman proudly driving around draped in animal skins surmounted with a top hat.
Norris’ resignation as Managing Director from the Northern Rhodesian Cotton Co was accepted at a meeting on 12 January 1921 with the Board acknowledging appreciation for “the manner Mr Dent successfully carried through the strenuous pioneer work, financial success etc etc.” The extract from “The Livingstone Mail” on 14 October 1920 says much.
