Bob has long had the reputation of being (politely!) something of a raconteur.
I believe it would have added tremendous entertainment value to this volume if he could have been persuaded to write and contribute a chapter devoted to his life, his exploits, experiences and escapades, but sadly that was not to happen.
From actual experiences such as his trip to the South Atlantic with the Dutch whaling fleet (the “Willem Barendz“ et al) in 1962 to involvements with all sorts of characters such as Dave van Wyk. Some stories have been stretched one way and another (Ed: the word “embellished’“would be a gross under-statement!) and there are many occasions where fact and fantasy may blur somewhat.
Say what you like, “a Bobby Dent Story” is unlikely to be dull! So, whenever you heard him utter his oft-quoted phrase: “Strews God!” – watch out!! AND, Walter Mitty, Stephen Spielberg and the rest, eat your hearts out!!
