Dora died in Salisbury on 24 November 1947 aged 71 at just the time they were preparing for a trip to Cape Town.
She fell down some stairs breaking her hip and her last words were “I wonder who will give Father his breakfast.” She is buried in the graveyard at St Mary Magdalene Church in Avondale, Salisbury (Harare).
Soon afterwards, Norris arrived in Cape Town and initially stayed with Cecil and Mamie in Camps Bay before buying a house at Milnerton where he lived for a short time – complete with car and chauffeur – before passing away at the “Monastery” in Sea Point.
There turned out to be ill-feeling concerning the handling of his Estate necessitating Cecil at one stage having to write to the General Manager of Barclays Bank.
Whilst the children eventually received their inheritances, none of the grandchildren received a penny of what had been bequeathed to them! In the end, Gordon received Norris’ black Studebaker Commodore, which he had railed to Pretoria.
